The other day when I posted "Hey Jude" by Wilson Pickett to honor Duane Allman's birthday‚ we received an email from Tom Hamilton (American Babies‚ Brothers Past):
Hey guys‚ just saw the article on Pickett's "Hey Jude" with Duane playing. If you were looking to extend the celebration of Duane's b-day one more day (I consider him to be THE greatest guitarist) I would suggest spotlighting Boz Scaggs' "Loan Me a Dime." I would say that very few people have any idea about this song‚ let alone the fact that it is probably some of the best guitar work recorded.
I attached the track. Please‚ PLEASE‚ stop what you are doing. Turn off your phone‚ sign out of IM. DO NOT listen to this through computer speakers! Listen through proper speakers. This song kills‚ the band is hott‚ and Duane Allman is about to put on a clinic on how to play the guitar.
I love getting emails like this -- it screams passion about music. So‚ yes‚ of course‚ we did this proper. We listened to it loud in the cozy confines of the SoM Headquarters. For 13 minutes‚ we sat and listened. Talk about a perfect vibe and such an appropriate tune!
