Hello‚ Goodbye
Adam King
February 26, 2009

Ahh, as it is one week to Hampton and welcoming one red-head back into my life, I feel I'm bidding another ginger farewell. I'm not afraid to say I got a little teary-eyed during Conan's last show this past Friday. Not so much by the fact that he's moving to a better time slot, but the fact that he's leaving NYC and the East Coast. And yes both Phish and Conan O'Brien came into my life about the same time, 1993 or so, and they have both profoundly shaped who I am. As they overlap at the point of the holy trinity with The Simpsons, I witness the cycles within them that have formed patterns within myself. Anyway, Conan chose the perfect band for the last show and they played the perfect song:

Ahhh, at least Letterman's still around. Did you see Ben Kweller on there a few weeks back. Boy has taken some serious twang pills and they're working wonders - best he's sounded in 8 years. BTW, "Launch Ramp" off 2001's EP Phone Home is one of the greatest 90 second rock tunes ever recorded. Here's the new one, "Fight."

2009 Langerado Cancelled
Mike McKinley
February 3, 2009

Bummer. I just received the following email from Langerado's publicist:

Today, the 2009 Langerado Music Festival is cancelled due to sluggish ticket sales. The 7th annual event was slated to happen March 6-8 at their new home in downtown Miami's Bicentennial Park.

Langerado's independent local promoters, faced with a very tough decision in a dismal economy, cancelled the 2009 event only after every possible option was exhausted.

As Langerado Co-Promoter Ethan Schwartz explains, "Langerado has always put the fan experience first. Unfortunately, during these difficult economic times, and facing a first year in a new venue, it's become apparent that we cannot execute a production that lives up to the high standards of our past events. Putting Langerado on hold was the toughest decision we have ever had to make. We are very grateful for the support of the greater-Miami community and the music community during this difficult time."

All tickets purchased will be refunded. Please look for ticket refunds to be processed in the next 5-7 business days. Each order will be refunded to the credit card in full, minus the included order processing fees. Shipping fees will also be credited for those orders that did not select the free shipping promotion. Visit www.musictoday.com for more information.

January 26, 2009

Happy Chinese New Year‚ everyone! Well‚ it's the Year of the Ox‚ which according to the Chinese calendar is an animal that brings prosperity through hard work.

Can you feel it? I can feel it. It's gonna be a good year.

So celebrate the Year of the Ox with The Ox. Check out this video of The Who playing "Won't Get Fooled Again" with the bass isolated. How fucking cool is Entwistle?!

Let's just say it hold up a little bit better than when you do it with David Lee Roth. Huh boy.

Thinking Spring: Mountain Jam Returns
Live Music Beth
January 22, 2009

It's 26 degrees where I am. Gray. I (truly) do love winter‚ but mostly because it makes the summer seem that much better. So today's announcement of this year's Mountain Jam gives me warm‚ sunglassed‚ bare-shouldered tingles.

Gov't Mule once again headline two nights of the fest‚ and the biggie this year is The Allman Brothers‚ celebrating their 40th (!!!) anniversary with an exclusive Northeast festival performance.

Two of my favorite newcomers from last year are back‚ Ray LaMontagne and Jackie Greene‚ and Michael Franti and Spearhead return to give everyone that feel-good set on the hill.

But wait -- there's more!

Get this: a late-night Girl Talk performance. Gov't Mule > Girl Talk?? I think I've seen it all! Nice‚ diverse choices by the promoters.

OK‚ maybe I haven't seen it all yet: Coheed & Cambria are on the lineup‚ joined by The Derek Trucks Band‚ The Hold Steady‚ Richie Havens‚ Railroad Earth‚ Porter Batiste & Stoltz‚ Brett Dennen‚ The Lee Boys‚ Macpodz‚ The Brew‚ U-Melt and Tea Leaf Green.

I'll say it again: diverse. Bravo!

I'll see you at Hunter Mountain May 29-31. Early bird passes go on sale this Monday at Mountainjam.com.

While you're waiting‚ check out State of Mind's coverage of last year's Mountain Jam.
